MOZART'S STARLING by Lyanda Lynn Haupt

On May 27th, 1784, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart adopted a flirtatious little starling who, to his surprise, sang the theme from his Piano Concerto Number 17 in G to him from a shop window. In 2013, determined to learn what this normally reviled bird could have meant to the composer, Lyanda Lynn Haupt rescued her own
starling, Carmen—and her life changed forever.

Part natural history, part biography, and part memoir, Mozart’s Starling intertwines the stories of Mozart’s beloved pet and Haupt’s own, providing an unexpected window into human-animal friendships, music, the secret world of starlings, and the nature of creative inspiration.
