Reynard the Fox — Treason Before the Crown (A Medieval Bardcore Conspiracy Ballad)
*“Not rumor—none. It stood prepared,” says Reynard, as he stands bound before King Noble’s court and names a treason said to have been laid against the crown.*
A dark medieval bardcore conspiracy ballad drawn from "Reynard the Fox" — Chapter the Fourth — told as a judicial confrontation between Reynard, King Noble, and the court itself.
*Set within a single, unmoving scene rendered in the style of a medieval illuminated manuscript, the song unfolds not as rescue, but as suspended sentence: the rope is loosened, yet the bond remains, as confession gives way to accusation and accusation hardens into political threat.*
*What began beneath the gallows-tree as a condemned fox’s final confession now widens into something far more dangerous: silver and gold counted out as wage, treason prepared in secret, and a blow said to have been meant for the King himself.*
The video holds deliberately still, placing its full weight on voice and consequence rather than motion.
Reynard speaks in a controlled, continuous pressure; King Noble answers in clipped, judicial command; and at last the Court enters in strict unison, not as comfort, but as confirmation that once truth is spoken aloud, it cannot be sealed again.
The music remains restrained throughout—minor, processional, chamber-scale—advancing without swell or spectacle before ending, abruptly and without relief.
The song is adapted from Chapter the Fourth of "Reynard the Fox" (Reineke Fuchs) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, using the 1855 English translation by Thomas James Arnold.
The original work is in the public domain; this version reshapes its language and structure into a medieval conspiracy ballad without altering its moral force.

*No innocence is claimed here—only the peril that follows once treason is named before the throne.*
