Deputy Chairman, COO & Chief Bibop Officer —
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies
Dirk Ahlborn
CEO -- Hyperloop Transportation Technologies
About Hyperloop Transportation Technology’s Project:
- Raised tube filled with vacuums and magnets, held aloft off the ground by pylons, using solar, wind, other renewable energy sources to propel capsule carrying passengers within the tube at high speeds. The pressurized capsules ride on an air cushion driven by linear induction motors and air compressors.
- Hyperloop technology was explicitly open-sourced by Elon Musk and SpaceX, and others have been encouraged to take the ideas and further develop them.
- Pylons, depending on climate, will not interfere with wildlife, allow bird nesting, collect water and sequester carbon
- Top speed: 760 miles per hour empty, 160 miles per hour with passengers (for the prototype. The objective is to achieve the high speeds with passengers eventually as well)
- Prototype track being built in Quay Valley in California will cover five miles, take 32 months to complete, and is estimated to cost $150 million to build. When completed, should be able to transport 10 million passengers.
