Setting up a slider function on the DX6i!

For those of you who have the DX6i (Or any radio WITHOUT dedicated sliders, for that matter), you can understand how difficult it is to get scale flap deployment, or manually controlled deployment on any channel above channel 4.

However, with Spektrum radios there is a very simple way to utilize the scroll selector as a slider. For this tutorial, I'll be using the UMX Carbon Cub SS as an example. There's a very good reason to use a slider (Or a servo delay) with flaps. If flaps are deployed too quickly, or at too high a speed, it can cause severe ballooning. Deploying flaps is like getting into first gear on a standard transmission- you have to slowly ease out the clutch or the engine might stall. You need to graudually deploy the flaps so that the aircraft doesn't balloon.

Here's a quick rundown of the programming you need to do in order to set up a slider function using the flap menu:

Enter the menu by pressing down once on the scroll.

Enter the flap menu by scrolling down the menu and pressing once on the 'flaps' option.

Set the '0' switch position for the flap switch so that it is equivalent to 99 'Up' on the radio. This will be your failsafe.

Now, move the flap switch to the '1' position, and press down once on the scroll to 'open' the mix. The mix being open means that the scroll now controls the deployment on the servo.

As you move the scroll back and forth, you are controlling the amount of deployment on the servo. This is your 'slider'.

If you need to quickly retract the flaps all the way, flip the flap switch back to the '0' position. The flaps will immediately be fully retracted. Since the flap setting is still 'open', you can scroll back to a retracted flap position while the flap switch is set to '0'. This will allow you to deploy flaps once you move to the '1' position without the ballooning effect.
