DENSO and ATI Demonstrate Robotic Force Control For Electrical Assembly

Using ATI ‘s Axia80 Force/Torque Sensor, DENSO’s VS-060 robot performs an electronic assembly application to install IC chips into a breadboard. The Axia80 Sensor provides compliance so the DENSO robot can ensure the chip is attached securely to the board.

This real-time feedback gathered by the sensor allows the robot to account for any misalignment through dynamic path adjustment, apply just enough force to install the chip without damaging it, and verify that the process is complete and the chip is securely seated in the board. Active readouts of the force/torque data from the application illustrate the measurement of forces and torques in real time. In addition to path modification, sensed values can also detect faulty parts and help prevent part damage caused by improper processing.
