Guards Major Roman Nikolaevich Filipov was born on August 13, 1984, Voronezh, RSFSR, USSR - died February 3, 2018, near Serakiba, Idlib, Syria.
On February 3, 2018, when the Idlib de-escalation zone was carried out to control the cease-fire regime, the leading Russian Su-25SM attack aircraft under the command of Major Roman Filipov near the city of Serakib was shot down from a portable anti-aircraft missile system. The pilot tried to hold the plane in the air and reported that he was attacked by a rocket, after which he ejected. On the ground, the pilot was surrounded by militants and died in the ensuing battle: firing from the attackers with a Stechkin pistol, he was seriously wounded, and then blew himself up with grenades with the words "This is for the boys!". The slave of the commander of the ground-attack squadron supported the commander with fire from the air, carried out several attacks, worked on machines that were approaching the olive grove where Roman was. He destroyed two cars and left the zone only when an emergency amount of fuel remained.

Responsibility for the defeat of MANPADS was claimed by the militants of the terrorist organization “Jabhat Fatah al-Sham” (previously known as “Dzhebhat al-Nusra”) and the rebel “Syrian Free Army” (“Jaish al-Nasr” grouping).

The response precision strike of the Russian military in this square was destroyed three dozen militants, followed by a sweep of the territory by special forces of the Syrian Ground Forces with the support of the Russian Aerospace Force to evacuate the body of the pilot and aircraft parts to establish the type of MANPADS. With the same purpose, special operations were carried out by Russian and Turkish special services.

Российский военный лётчик, заместитель командира эскадрильи 187 гвардейского штурмового авиационного полка, гвардии майор, погиб вместе с множеством террористов, окруживших его, подорвав себя гранатами со словами «Это вам за пацанов!»

Гвардии майор Роман Николаевич Филипов родился 13 августа 1984, Воронеж, РСФСР, СССР — погиб 3 февраля 2018, близ Серакиба, Идлиб, Сирия.

3 февраля 2018 года при выполнении облёта зоны деэскалации «Идлиб» для контроля режима прекращения огня ведущий в паре российский штурмовик Су-25СМ под управлением майора Романа Филипова вблизи города Серакиб был сбит выстрелом из переносного зенитного ракетного комплекса. Лётчик попытался удержать самолёт в воздухе и доложил, что атакован ракетой, после чего катапультировался. На земле пилот попал в окружение боевиков и погиб в последовавшем за этим бою: отстреливаясь от нападавших из пистолета Стечкина, был тяжело ранен, а затем подорвал себя гранатами со словами «ЭТО ВАМ ЗА ПАЦАНОВ!». Ведомый командира звена штурмовиков поддерживал командира огнём с воздуха, выполнил несколько атак, отработал по машинам, которые приближались к оливковой роще, где был Роман. Уничтожил два автомобиля и покинул зону только когда осталось аварийное количество топлива.

Ответным высокоточным ударом российских военных в данном квадрате было уничтожено три десятка боевиков.

Герой Российской Федерации (6 февраля 2018, посмертно) — «за героизм, мужество и отвагу, проявленные при исполнении воинского долга». Награда вручена Президентом России родственникам в Кремле в День защитника Отечества 23 февраля 2018 года
