Peace - Advent 2023

Watch and wait for the One who gives us a way for PEACE to be experienced in this life.

Like those within the pages of Scripture who longed to be delivered from suffering and oppression, we too pray for PEACE to be made manifest in our own personal and collective lives.

PEACE is not only a perception of calm that exceeds anything we can understand with our minds, but also a process of actively working together to ensure that all life is equally valued and supported. And where there is division, PEACE is what happens when we’re involved in reconciliation.

As it says in Romans 12, “Bless those who persecute you…Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other…Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”

Christmastime is an occasion for us to consider how we are contributing to or interfering with the wholeness that God longs for all to encounter in the world. It’s a chance to be grateful for those aspects of harmony in our own lives, and a time to think of creative pathways to PEACE among friends and enemies alike.

As those seeking to follow the footsteps of Christ, we accept PEACE as a gift, but also as a mission. And so, we watch and wait for the One who gives us a way for PEACE to be experienced in this life.
