Elephant orphans were filmed at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. AVP's Dutch film crew followed some foster parents during their visit to the DSWT shelters in Nairobi, Voi and Ithumba.

For the benefit of Dutch foster parents (peetouders) the film is sub-titled in Dutch.

In just a few decades the elephant population in Kenya has diminished by 90%. If this keeps up, elephants will soon disappear from nature. Forever......

Numerous elephants became orphan after their mother was killed by poachers.

An earlier AVP film on orphan elephants “TRUST” – Dutch spoken by no one else than Frits Bloemink – is and remains an all-time classic.

The composition of the orphan elephant families has changed considerably over the years. New growth replaced others that returned to the wild. A wild environment where elephants increasingly have a tough time. Loss of habitat, human/elephant conflict and above all poaching.

”Surely it ain’t all that bad? – I saw plenty of elephants when I was on holiday in Africa”.

Chobe, Botswana; 26 killed by poachers. One of the largest elephants ever seen in Zimbabwe, killed by a German hunter. Over a 6 years period 65,000 elephants were killed in Tanzania. In Kruger Parc – South Africa, poaching jumped from 17% in 2014 to 41% in 2015.

More African elephants are being killed for ivory than are being born.

The media frequently publish articles about this. The problem is only getting worse.

It may only be a drop in the ocean, but AVP continues to make every effort to work for African elephants. Are you committed?

Foster parents can support orphans by adopting them. Because not everybody can travel to Kenya, Augustijn Video Productions (AVP) produced the film ”Foster Parents”. Dutch foster parents were followed during their visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, Ithumba and Voi.

The film shows where and how the orphan elephants are kept, how the keepers deal with the orphans, how foster parents are up-dated by the keepers and especially how foster parents experience being amidst orphans, ex orphans and wild elephants. A unique experience!

For all those who are not in a position to embark on a foster parent trip in Kenya the objective of the film is to provide information. To stimulate awareness. Why are the elephants orphan? Why is there any poaching? What can we do? AVP film ”Foster Parents” gives the answers.
