How to Filter in Excel and Whats the best option? Filter vs Slicer
In this free Excel tutorial, you will learn how to use the Filter feature in Excel and how to use Slicers to filter data in a more visual and interactive way.
Both tools have advantages and disadvantages. The Excel Filter has been used for many years to filter, organize, and sort data from A to Z, Z to A, alphabetically, chronologically, or from largest to smallest. However, one downside is that it can sometimes be harder to manage, especially when you have multiple filtered columns and need to identify exactly where filters were applied.
On the other hand, Excel Slicers are easier to use, more modern, more visual, and much more interactive. In my opinion, slicers are an ideal solution for Excel dashboards, professional spreadsheets, business reports, meetings, and presentations.
With a slicer, you simply click on an item and the table is automatically filtered. To clear the filter, just click the clear filter button. It is simple, practical, and very easy to use.
However, slicers also have one limitation: they do not sort data alphabetically, chronologically, or from largest to smallest. They only filter the data.
In this Excel lesson, you will understand when to use the traditional Filter tool and when to use Slicers to make your spreadsheets more dynamic, professional, and user-friendly.
