There was once a frog who lived in a shallow well. The well was narrow, dark, and cold, but the frog thought it was the entire world.

One day, a sea turtle passing by looked into the well. "Hello," the turtle said. "Would you like to see the ocean?"

The frog laughed. "The ocean? What is that? I have seen everything there is to see. My well contains the sky, the water, the walls. There is nothing beyond."

The turtle described the ocean—vast, deep, endless. It told of waves that could swallow mountains, of depths that had never seen light, of creatures larger than the frog's entire well.

The frog could not believe it. "You are lying," he said. "Such a thing cannot exist. My well is all there is."

The turtle sighed. "Come out," he said. "See for yourself." But the frog was afraid. The well was all he had ever known. The world beyond was too large, too strange, too terrifying.

So the frog stayed in his well, believing that the well was everything. The turtle returned to the sea, saddened but not surprised.

Years passed. The frog grew old in his well. He never saw the ocean. He never knew what he was missing.

One day, a great flood filled the well and washed the frog out. He tumbled through currents he had never imagined, past creatures he had never dreamed of, into a vastness that had no walls.

When the flood subsided, he found himself on the shore of the ocean. He looked out at the endless water, the infinite horizon, the waves that stretched beyond seeing.

He wept. Not from sorrow, but from wonder. He had spent his whole life in a well, believing it was everything. And all along, the ocean had been waiting.

He lived out his days on the shore, not in the ocean, but near it. And whenever he saw another creature in a well, he would call down: "The well is not all there is. Come out. The ocean is real. And it is waiting for you."
