Do you want to increase your ability to play a solo by up to 10x right now? Then you have to check out what I’m going to cover in this lesson. In order to be able to play a solo you have to understand that soloing requires you to approach the notes of each chord as closely as possible for the best matched tones.

This means, you’ll need both awareness and an appreciation for the notes plus the chord tones that work the best. One of the easiest ways to do all this is through shapes on the neck. Shapes are based upon intervals and they allow us to be maximally efficient.

This concept can be introduced in many ways, but one of my favorites is to present it is by using an analogy of mapping notes on the fingerboard using a letter “J” shape on the neck. If you want the best notes possible, then the “J” Shape will help you do it by mapping some of the most balanced intervals.

The reason the “J” Shape works so well is a guitar students mind generally replies on a visual chain when it comes to seeing well connected notes to play. The minute a student forgets about their shapes they also destroy their ability to both map and play good intervals.
