Where to Start With Music Theory, Episode 7: The Coolness of Swing 8th Notes
This is such a simple concept with HUGE ramifications. It's easy enough to wrap our heads around the idea that a quarter note can get divided in 2 to yield 8th notes. And of course, we can divide those again to get 16th notes.
However, we can also divide that same quarter note into thirds, giving us triplets. If we tie the first two notes of triplet together, we get swing 8ths notes! Groovy!
