The Problem with Instagram Influencers

Since Instagram allowed user to post 60 second videos, travel influencers began making a new style of adventure videos. These lifestyle videos are abstract montages devoid of any real substance, and ultimately I believe they are the exact opposite of "inspiring." All of these travel videos are the same, they lack story and meaning, and basically just show off the lives of these influencers.

UPDATE: Over a year ago I created this video when I was a frustrating point in my video career. I felt so empty watching these videos from influencers that I looked up to, because I did not have their incredible lives. I don't mean to trash talk the individuals featured in this video, but I do believe they can send bad messages, and their content is basically showing off their endless travel lifestyles. Now one year after creating this video, YouTube's algorithm started recommending this video. And so, I would like to clarify my statement, now at a place in my life where I'm not so frustrated with influencers. The biggest point I want to make is that if you want to make your own videos, with your own voice, I would recommend distancing yourself from influencers. After unfollowing these people (yes including Sam Kolder, sorry man) I was finally able to find my own style in video making. I began focusing on story instead of imagery, and I have found a small bit of success in this past year because of it. A lot of that I attribute to not checking my phone every day and comparing myself to the unattainable image these influencers put online.

So I apologize if at a time of angst, I ripped on an influencer you love. I just think they could do a better job of inspiring today's youth.
