A man was arrested for stalking me - Story time

In light of everything happening in the world, after reading multiple women's experiences with sexual harassment, I have decided to share one of many of my own experiences. I am hoping this will continue to spread awareness to just how fragile and concerning a woman's ability to feel safe and comfortable is. Unfortunately, this is an experience that the majority of women will face at some point in their life, and to make it even worse it's one of the "better" situations. All that we can do to make a change is continuing to shed light on the situation, help each other to feel safe, and show others why their behavior needs to change.

I hate that in situations like these, a woman's safety and security are completely stripped. There is nothing that I could have done myself to make me feel in control and it continues to make me feel anxious and fearful. Many experiences in my life have changed the way I handle myself, I am grateful that I have more knowledge and experience to guide me through life, but I shouldn't have to take extra precautions to feel as though I am in a safe space.

I have done my best to find information that can help those in need, both during situations and dealing with situations that have happened in the past.

My DMs are always open.

If you ever feel as if someone is following you PLEASE:
Phone the police
Stay in public areas if possible
Approach a member of the public, ideally, someone who is working... ( waitress/waiter, tfl staff member, retail worker, NHS staff member, etc) it is more likely that this person is both identifiable and trustworthy.
Make a phone call
Try to stay as far away as possible from the person who is following you.

If you have been sexually assaulted, whether as an adult or a young person, it is important to remember that it wasn't your fault. Sexual violence is a crime, no matter who commits it or where it happens. Don't be afraid to get help.

Where you go for help will depend on what's available in your area and what you want to do. For specialist medical attention and sexual violence support, whether you decide to have a forensic medical examination or not, your first point of call is a sexual assault referral center (SARC).
The following services will also provide treatment or support, and can refer you to another service if you need more specialist help (such as a SARC):

a doctor or practice nurse at your GP surgery
a voluntary organization, such as Women's Aid, Victim Support, The Survivors Trust or Survivors UK (for male victims of sexual assault)
the 24-hour freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, on 0808 2000 247
the Rape Crisis national freephone helpline on 0808 802 9999 (12-2.30pm and 7-9.30pm every day of the year)
a hospital accident and emergency (A&E) department
a genitourinary medicine (GUM) or sexual health clinic
a contraceptive clinic
a young people's service
NHS 111
the police, or dial 101
in an emergency, dial 999 - NHS

It is a situation nobody wants to find themselves in, but if you are ever in danger and cannot speak to phone the police, it is still possible to summon help. Calling 999 and coughing or tapping in 55 on the keypad will signal to the call operator that you are in danger, allowing them to send officers to your location. - BBC
