Malaria in pregnancy, how to treat and prevent

Malaria in pregnancy is still a major cause of preventable illness and death—for both mothers and babies.
As we mark World Malaria Day (April 25), this video highlights why starting antenatal care (ANC) early is critical, especially in regions where malaria is prevalent.
Pregnancy lowers immunity, making malaria infections more severe and dangerous. The consequences can include severe anemia, miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and even stillbirth.
The good news? Prevention is simple and effective:
✔ Start ANC early—ideally in the first trimester
✔ Receive preventive treatment like Fansidar (SP)
✔ Sleep under a mosquito net every night
Delaying care puts both mother and baby at risk. Early action saves lives.
If you are pregnant—or planning pregnancy—don’t wait. Take control of your health and protect your baby.
