I picked up the cheapest snare drum on Amazon—the Ktaxon 13" x 3.5" Piccolo Snare—for just $37… and now it's somehow down to $29. At that price, I had to find out if this thing is usable or if it’s total junk.

• How it sounds stock vs. upgraded with Evans Genera HD Dry and Evans 200 Snare Side heads
• What kinds of drummers this might actually work for
• Whether this ultra-budget snare could hold up in a real band setting

This drum is far from perfect—the hardware is rough, the throw-off is janky, and the included heads are paper thin—but with a few upgrades, it honestly surprised me.
