The lifesaving strangers offering refuge to Ukrainians fleeing the war | ITV News

In the scramble to get out of Ukraine, more than a million people have become refugees in a single week.

That's a similar number to all the Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis who tried to reach Europe during the whole of 2015.

Hungary and Moldova have each taken in around 100,000 refugees. Moldova, incidentally, applied for EU membership today.

And tens of thousands more are in Slovakia, Romania, and other European countries.

But the largest number of refugees - more than half a million so far - have crossed into Poland.

Heading towards them, thousands of Poles not just with supplies of essentials, but with offers of a home.
