Gjon's tears - conversation au FIFF - partie 2

Gjon était invité au Festival international du Film de Fribourg de 2022 avec une carte blanche pour présenter des films d'Albanie et du Kosovo, ses origines. Le 23 mars au soir il a aussi parlé de sa passion pour le cinéma et les liens avec sa carrière et sa vie en général. J'en ai filmé quelques extraits.

00:00 Talking Swiss clichés, I am very Swiss with chocolate, I make people taste chocolate all the time, we eat fondue as often as possible, and cheese is my absolute passion.
But seriously, what are my Swiss qualities? .... I think it’s this solitary side....
I remember a woman who lived across the street... she didn’t want children, so she stayed on her own: It’s ok, I’m home, I’m in my house and I’m safe, this is what she wanted. And I have this side too which I think is completely Swiss. I love to have a space all for myself. This is not the case at all in Kosovo, you’re permanently sorrounded by people, the population is larger, the families are much bigger too, and so it’s very difficult to be on your own even for a moment. And there’s even more: Sometimes I like to be with someone without talking much or talking at all. This would be a little strange in Kosovo, they want to talk, they want to know what happens in my life, they don’t want just to sit there and doing what....?
Maybe I’m also Swiss in matters of organization or being a little pedagogical ... and maybe there is a certain coldness too....
02:00 ... sometimes I happen to put on a mask, quite a thick mask...
I won’t react immediately, I’ll wait, I’ll think about it, I’ll see what will happen... . And then patience too. Yesterday I stayed with the audience after the concert, I stayed there for an hour or so talking to people, taking photos, giving autographs. Sometimes I’m asked why I do this. I do it because all these people took the trouble to come and see me like you did today, this touches me because it’s useless making music when nobody comes to listen to you... . It’s an infusion for me... . If I’m on stage and there is no audience, there is no juice, there is nothing. In this case I better stay home without bothering anybody, making music for myself and shouting like a fool, that’s it.
To be honest, this has something to do with wanting to touch my grandfather,
I also have the sensation that things happen really fast and I don’t know how long they’ll last. My grandfather often said to me: One day you’ll be someone people appreciate, but I won’t be here to see you. Today he’s still here and I have the impression that I really rushed to do everything necessary. I am patient and impatient at the same time, there are these contrasts and I think there are as many Swiss sides in me as there are Albanian or Kosovar sides. But it’s very difficult to express them because I don’t want to analyse them...

Interviewer: And there is also a limit to clichés.
Gjon: Clichés don’t bother me so much. It’s funny when I go there people ask me where my watch is and if I packed it away, I like this kind of jokes, they are ok as long as you aren’t stuck to them and you don’t believe they are true. And talking clichés, I am very happy that with this movie selection I could show cinema in Albania and Kosovo exists.
Interviewer: A universal cinema because the movies of your choice touch themes like homosexuality, women’s emancipation, harassment in social media ...
Gjon: Yes, and above all they show another facette of these countries because usually in newspapers you read stories about murders, about robbery, about drugs, and that’s a pity because it shows a damaged picture.
