"Saviors in the Night" is an award-winning film from German director Ludi Boeken (Deadlines), and is coming soon to theaters from Menemsha Films! "Saviors in the Night" tells the harrowing true story of Marga Spiegel (Veronica Ferres) and her family, who were saved from certain death at the hands of the Nazis by their German neighbors and the bond of community that they shared. "Saviors in the Night" won the Audience Award for Best Dramatic Film at the Pittsburgh Jewish Film Festival. The film was also the Opening Night Film of the New York Jewish Film Festival and the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, and has screened at film festivals all over the world.

Synopsis: Menne Spiegel (Armin Rohde, Run Lola Run) was an old friend, a decorated fellow veteran of WWI, and a Jew. Despite being patriotic Germans and Nazi sympathizers, the Aschoff family, fellow farmers of Westphalia, took in Menne's wife Marga (Veronica Ferres) and daughter Karin and hid them, rescuing them from deportation and certain death.

"Saviors in the Night" (German Title: Unter Bauern) is based on the experiences of Marga Spiegel, whose memoirs became a bestseller in Germany. She is currently 97 years old and still lives in Germany.
