Police Officer Guilty for k•lling Aston Villa star Dalian Atkinson

Former Aston Villa footballer Dalian was on dialysis at the time of his death and had multiple health problems on Monday, August 15, 2016 he had been due to attend the BMI Alexandra Hospital for private treatment, but tragically he would never make it there.

His partner Karen Wright described him acting bizarrely out of character by talking of his own death and referring to himself as the Messiah, on the Sunday evening before.

He left his home around 1am on the Monday to visit his father Ernest's home in Meadow Close, Trench.

Ernest, who was 85 at the time and has since passed away, stated Dalian grabbed him by the throat and accused him and his family of plotting to kill him. He said his son 'had not been in his right mind' at the time.

A neighbour called the police out of concern for Ernest's welfare.

Pc Monk, now aged 43, an experienced officer with more than 15 years service at the time, arrived on the scene first along with his colleague Pc Mary Ellen Bettley-Smith, 31, who had only been on the force for 18 months.

Mr Atkinson died after being Tasered and kicked by Pc Benjamin Monk outside his father's home in Telford on August 15, 2016.

On the night of the 48-year-old's death, his family said, he needed medical attention but instead was met with 'violence' and 'died with PC Monk’s boot lace prints bruised onto his forehead'.

The West Mercia Police officer was this morning cleared of murdering the footballer but convicted of his manslaughter following a seven-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Mr Atkinson's family said: “Dalian Atkinson is much missed by all his family and friends and the footballing communities of the clubs he played for in his long and successful career as a professional footballer, especially Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa.
