GWENT: Rogue Mage Run-7 | Roguelike Gwent Playthrough Series
GWENT: Rogue Mage Run-7 | Roguelike Gwent Playthrough Series
Welcome to my GWENT: Rogue Mage playthrough series!
This video is part of my complete Rogue Mage journey, including successful runs, Grandmaster Difficulty clears, trophy hunting, deck experimentation, and plenty of ridiculous moments that somehow ended in victory.
For those unfamiliar with Rogue Mage, this is CD Projekt RED's single-player roguelike spin-off based on the GWENT card game from The Witcher universe. Unlike Thronebreaker, which focuses heavily on story, characters, puzzles, and narrative choices, Rogue Mage is all about building stronger decks, unlocking new cards, discovering powerful synergies, and surviving increasingly difficult runs.
You play as Alzur, one of the legendary mages responsible for creating the first witchers. Throughout each run you'll travel across the map, battle increasingly dangerous enemies, collect treasures, upgrade cards, discover new spells, and attempt to defeat powerful bosses before eventually confronting the final challenge.
What makes Rogue Mage unique is its roguelike progression system. Every run starts relatively simple, but as you win, the game becomes increasingly difficult. After your first victory you lose a powerful ability that allows you to replay cards from your graveyard. From there, every three successful runs force you to choose additional modifiers that either strengthen enemies or weaken yourself.
The progression structure looks like this:
After first 1-successful run and you get the nerfs on you
making game tougher
and from then on every 3-successful run game difficulty increases upto 4times overall you need 13 runs to finish the game and then unlock the toughest difficulty which is optional but necessary for Platinum Trophy Route
Completing all of these unlocks Grandmaster Difficulty, the hardest challenge in the game and a requirement for the game's ultimate achievement.
One thing I quickly learned during my journey is that Rogue Mage can be incredibly unforgiving. A single mistake can completely destroy an otherwise perfect run. Unlike Thronebreaker, where strategy and long-term planning often carried the day, Rogue Mage frequently asks players to adapt to whatever cards, treasures, and encounters the game decides to give them.
Some runs feel almost impossible.
Other runs become absolutely ridiculous.
A few of the strongest combinations I discovered during my playthrough included:
• Mutagen treasure combined with high damage spell builds
• Spell Cost Reduction treasures allowing massive combo turns
• Damage-focused key card strategies capable of clearing entire boards
• Self-sustaining spell loops that continuously generate value
• Treasure combinations that effectively turned difficult encounters into free wins
Ironically, 12 of my 13 successful runs were completed using the damage-focused deck, while one successful run somehow happened with the Random Deck. To this day I'm still not entirely sure how I won that run.
Despite its flaws, Rogue Mage creates some incredibly tense moments. Enemy AI is surprisingly aggressive and much tougher than what I remember from Thronebreaker. Many encounters are designed specifically to punish mistakes, meaning every decision matters.
Because of that, victories feel incredibly satisfying.
When you're one turn away from losing a 50-minute run and somehow manage to find the perfect sequence of plays to survive, the adrenaline rush is real.
Although I personally still prefer Thronebreaker because of its story, characters, soundtrack, puzzles, and meaningful decision-making, I genuinely enjoyed Rogue Mage. It delivered a challenging roguelike card game experience that kept me coming back for "just one more run."
During this playthrough I also managed to capture some absolutely insane moments, crazy RNG situations, unexpected victories, clutch plays, and unbelievable combos. Many of those clips will eventually become both short-form and long-form videos, so stay tuned for future uploads.
I've also been actively playing the original multiplayer GWENT and have plenty of deck guides, meta decks, off-meta experiments, and balance patch builds planned for the future.
