Brenda is President and CEO of AnitaB.org and steward of the Grace Hopper Celebration, the world’s largest gathering of women technologists, named after computing pioneer Grace Hopper.

Who is Anita Borg and how are we moving her legacy forward?

Anita is a Mt. Prospect native, who worked for Deck, and pioneered the technology industry and coined the phrase “50/50 by 2020,” in 1995 and creating equal gender representation in technology. Anita recognized a gap between the industry’s state and the potential and wanted to give women a space to learn.

The origin story began in a women’s bathroom, Systers, began by a convening of 12 women at a conference bathroom where women could learn from each other technically and develop professionally, from this the Grace Hopper celebration was born.

The Grace Hopper Celebration is this October 27-30th 2026.
