The United States has proposed a new tariff ranging from 10% to 12.5% on imports from more than 60 countries, including India, citing concerns over inadequate enforcement of bans on goods allegedly produced using forced labour. The proposal by the U.S. Trade Representative comes as India and the United States continue negotiations on an interim trade agreement. India's Commerce Ministry has said discussions are underway on two Section 301 investigations related to forced labour and excess industrial capacity, with talks progressing alongside broader trade negotiations.
