Super Typhoon Rolly hits Metro Manila | STRONGEST TYPHOON IN 2020
November 1, 2020
Super Typhoon Rolly (International Name: Goni) had made landfall at Catanduanes at around 2:00 AM (local time) and was forecasted to traverse the Southern Tagalog Region and Metro Manila. Storm Signal No. 4 was raised over Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The last time Metro Manila was placed by PAGASA under Signal No. 4 was 25 years ago, during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rosing (International Name: Angela). Rolly, said to be the world's strongest tropical cyclone for 2020 so far, maintained its strength early Saturday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 215 kph and gustiness of up to 265 kph. If its maximum sustained winds exceed 220 kph, it would be classified as a super typhoon.
For those who are asking, I am safe and I'm currently in Makati. As of this writing, the typhoon had lost its significant strength after making its third landfall over Quezon Province around 2 PM local time. This is probably due to the Sierra Madre mountain ranges of Luzon which creates friction caused by a large landmass, and their terrain cuts off the hurricane's circulation and squeezes out the storm's moisture.
