The IRS announced that the misdirected stimulus payments are finally reaching taxpayers after they were sent to temporary accounts.

The IRS issued a statement on Friday, “IRS tax industry partners are taking steps to redirect stimulus payments to the correct taxpayer account for as many people as possible.”

Intuit, the company that makes TurboTax, indicated on Twitter that the money was being sent to TurboTax users whose payments were initially misdirected to temporary accounts used by the company.

They also blamed the IRS for the mistake, which has delayed delivery for more than a week in some cases.

Intuit tweeted, “Stimulus payments will begin to be deposited today, Jan. 8th, for millions of our customers affected by the IRS error. We expect most of these payments to be available today, but banks could take a few more days to process.”

We are so glad to hear that this issue has been fixed.

Up next, the terms and conditions for aid exclude millions of people, which also weren’t eligible for the first round of checks either.

Elderly or disabled people who are claimed as adult dependents will not receive money, neither will college students or recent graduates who were claimed as dependents on their parent’s 2019 tax returns.

This issue was proposed by Democrats back in May of 2020 expanding stimulus requirements to full-time students below the age of 24 and adult dependents through the Heroes Act.

The bill was stalled in the Senate for negotiations after it passed the House.

According to Vox.com, “there are about 13.5 million adult dependents in the US: a majority 54 percent are students and around 20 percent are disabled adults.”

We hope as the new Congress was sworn in and now that the Senate has turned blue that this issue will be brought up again for the third round of stimulus payments.

President-elect Joe Biden announced on Friday that he is assembling a multitrillion-dollar relief package that would boost stimulus payments.

The package is said to increase stimulus payment to $2,000, extend unemployment insurance, and send billions of dollars in aid to city and state governments.

The package will also include billions of dollars to improve vaccine distribution and tens of millions of dollars for schools, as well as rent forbearance and assistance to small businesses.

Biden said, “The price tag will be high. The overwhelming consensus among leading economists left, right, and center are that in order to keep the economy from collapsing this year, getting much, much worse, we should be investing significant amounts of money right now.”

Biden said he would lay out the package in more detail next week.

There are also some early signs of challenges that Biden may face as Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin expressed criticism Friday.

Manchin is stating, “that the first priority needed to be on getting people vaccinated, not sending out checks.”
