Parametric And Geometric Continuity In Computer Graphics In Hindi | Parametric Continuity:

The numbers associated with "C" and "G" refer to degrees of continuity. Basically, parametric continuity corresponds to a parametric equation associated with a curve or surface. Geometric continuity refers to the way that a curve or surface looks (unit tangent or curvature vector continuity).

In lay terms, continuity is associated with the smoothness of the geometry. The smoothness can be evaluated in terms of either the parametric space or the geometric appearance. The numbers associated with "C" and "G" refer to degrees of continuity. Basically, parametric continuity corresponds to a parametric equation associated with a curve or surface. Geometric continuity refers to the way that a curve or surface looks (unit tangent or curvature vector continuity). Typically, parametric continuity implies geometric continuity and vice versa; however, exceptions do exist.

In more precise terms, C0 continuity means that a curve or surface is continuous (possesses no gaps) but may exhibit kinks or sharp bends. C1 continuity means that the parametric equation associated with the curve or surface exhibits first derivative continuity. Likewise, C2 continuity implies parametric second derivative continuity, G1 continuity implies unit tangent vector continuity, and G2 continuity implies curvature vector continuity.

It follows that C1 or G1 continuity implies C0 continuity -- that is, if a curve or surface is C1 or G1 continuous, then it is also C0 continuous. Similarly, C2 or G2 continuity implies C1 or G1 continuity, respectively.
