Neck Fit and Final Sanding at Gibson Acoustic Guitars | The Process S2: EP6

The compound dovetail neck joint is part of our DNA here at Gibson, dating back to Orville himself. This process requires the precise work of seasoned and highly skilled craftspeople. There are easier ways to fit a neck joint, but this method brings our acoustic guitars as close as possible to resonating as if they were built from a single piece of wood. Hide glue, used in conjunction with the compound dovetail neck joint, creates a tighter bond the more pressure that is applied. When coupled with nitrocellulose lacquer, Gibson acoustic guitars evolve and improve over time, maturing alongside you to become a cherished heirloom piece.
