THOUGH | ALTHOUGH | EVEN THOUGH - a simple explanation
THOUGH | ALTHOUGH | EVEN THOUGH
These three words/phrases mean the same thing.
1) THOUGH is informal and usually only heard in spoken English.
2) ALTHOUGH is neutral and can be used in spoken and written English.
3) EVEN THOUGH is neutral and can be used in spoken and written English, but it gives more emphasis that "although."
We use these words when we do something DESPITE something else. There is a contrast in the situation.
When people are sick do they normally go to the gym? No. But what if someone didn't care they were sick and went to the gym anyway? You can say:
THOUGH / ALTHOUGH / EVEN THOUGH I was sick, I went to the gym. I didn't care I was sick. I went to the gym anyway.
When it's raining outside, do people normally go out and exercise? Normally, no. But what if someone doesn't care that it's raining and goes for a run? You can say:
THOUGH / ALTHOUGH / EVEN THOUGH it was raining, I went for a run.
We don't only need to use the past simple:
Even though Carrie will be at the party, I'm going. I don't like Carrie, but I don't care that she's there. I'm going anyway.
You can see future tenses being used here.
These words are really common in conversations and in writing. I have a full lesson on this topic here:

Of course there can be other ways to use these words, but I hope this mini lesson helps you take your English one mini step forward.
