Problems based on Covariance Method,
(1) A prognostic test in Mathematics was given to 10 students who were about to begin a course in Statistics. The scores (X) in their test were examined in relations. to score (Y) in the final examination in Statistics. The following results were obtained: ∑𝑿 = 𝟕𝟏, ∑𝒀 = 𝟕𝟎,∑𝑿^𝟐 = 𝟓𝟓𝟓, ∑𝒀^𝟐 = 𝟓𝟐𝟔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 ∑𝑿𝒀= 𝟓𝟐𝟕 , Find the coefficient of correlation between X and Y.
(2) The coefficient of correlation between two variables X and Y is 0·48. The covariance is 36. The variance of X is 16. Find the standard deviation of Y.
(3) The covariance of two perfectly correlated variables 𝑿 and 𝒀 is 96. Determine 𝝈_𝑿 and𝝈_𝒀 if it is known that variance of 𝑿 and that of 𝒀 is in the ratio of 4 : 9,
