Blaze - Where You At

Legendary production / DJ outfit Blaze, aka Kevin Hedge and Josh Milan, have been producing the cream of quality soulful dance music together for a staggering 18 years. We at Papa Records are extremely excited to unveil their latest offering, a brand new stunning musical journey in the form of a special instrumentals album. This phenomenal outing showcases their faultless musicianship skills, focusing on their effortless ability to genre cross between Afrobeat, Jazz, Soul, House and Garage to create that beautiful Blaze signature sound we all love dearly.

This classy journey begins with the beautiful jazz tinged Sapporo, a piano lead affair with hints of flutes and strings over gentle Latin rhythms. Following on are the Afro Funk influenced Where You At? and the impeccable freestyle jazzy improvisation of Cexx.  Celestine Prophecy and Microboards boast warm deep house grooves with lush synth waves perfectly tailored for both lazy days in the sun and hot dancefloors alike. On the funky upbeat tip is Just Having Fun that sports an awesome lead guitar riding over bubbling key stabs.  Changing the mood is the stunning downtempo Balearic soundscape of Sunday Morning Drive, ripe with a gentle Latin guitar melodies echoed with pretty flute sounds. As the journey reaches its final destination the boys dish up a delicious helping of delicate and magical sounds with Astrology which rounds off this perfect tapestry where Blaze’s impeccable musical talent shines as brightly as ever.

Blaze first started to write, produce and remix their own material as a trio, with singer Chris Herbert, back in 1986. A year later their first track Whatcha Gonna Do? reached the ears of Larry Levan, who quickly turned the song into an anthem at the legendary Paradise Garage. Whilst working at Movin’ Records Kevin met WBLS Radio DJ Timmy Regisford who procured writing and production work for Blaze with several different major labels including a lucrative recording and publishing deal with Motown Records, who released their debut album entitled 25 Years Later.

From this point Blaze authored a number of deep house anthems from the 1980s and '90s, including If You Should Need a Friend and My Desire by Amira.  In 1994 Kevin & Josh, now operating as a duo, wrote and produced the UK Top Ten hit Hideaway by De'Lacy which sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. Three years later and Blaze returned with another club hit (Lovelee Dae) and their second full-length, Basic Blaze, which was released on UK label Slip'N'Slide. Subsequent releases for the label thereafter included the acclaimed Spiritually Speaking album that was released in September 2002, spawning the huge #1 dancefloor hits Breathe and Do You Remember House. Other albums to note are the Blaze Productions album for Playhouse and the Natural Blaze album on Life Line featuring smash singles How Deep Is Your Love and Elevation. The weight of musical output from this fantastic outfit is vast, boasting a huge, ever growing discography of

productions and collaborations which has recently seen Blaze contribute to Louie Vega’s new Elements Of Life album for Vega Records.

As is fitting for an artist who has created dance-floor fillers for almost 20 years, Kevin maintained involvement in the legendary New York City underground Saturday night dance party The Shelter for a decade, bringing an array of fabulous performers to play live including Mary J. Blige, Ashford & Simpson, Stephanie Mills, Femi Kuti, Grace Jones and Patti Labelle.  Both Kevin and Josh have DJed and performed live around the world and Kevin is also busy as President of seminal dance music label West End Records.
