The business of running a ghost town
In 2018, Brent Underwood, a 31-year-old hostel owner, bought a deserted mining town in California's Inyo Mountains named Cerro Gordo for $1.4 million with his business partner, Jon Bier. Their vision: to turn the town into a luxury destination for worldwide travelers. However, the pair have encountered their fair share of bumps in the road on their journey, proving why many dreamers before them have failed at their attempts to turn Cerro Gordo into a sustainable business.
