ERYKAH BADU/ HOW TO PAINT AN AFRO

re-uploaded

I can't tell you exactly when it happen but afros have made a come back (or did they ever really go out of style). I know your excited to learn how to paint them so here are some tip I that will definitely help you.
Tip 1 - identify the most noticeable shapes
The biggest problem with painting hair is the over whelming amount of detail you think you have to add. In the begin just focus on what you can do first. And that is pick out the shapes that grab your attention. They'll sever as icons like on a map and it'll make it easier to add the other smaller details
Tip 2 - add smaller details and highlights
After you've add the larger details you can add smaller ones. you should work one color in at a time still focusing in on large areas of color. We'll save the finest details for the end.
Tip 3 - focus you attention on getting the details in the right position
a problem for some students with this system is that the painting doesn't come together until the very end. The painting is built up in layers. once you've add all details on one layer let the paint dry. we have to get all the details in the right position before we begin to blend to colors together. and the truth is It's really not blended that much.
Tip 4 - use a worn down brush to create hair texture
This technique work best with a worn out brush because of the random patterns it produces. It'll work with a regular brush too. First dilute the paint some. Then press the brush straight into the canvas as if you were trying to poke a hole into it. Careful thought, this technique can ruin a brush really fast.
Tip 5 - dilute the darkest color to wash all the hair
After you've got everything layed out right, dilute your dark color to a watercolor like consistency and wash over all the hair. first it will darken all your color. Second it will make the color seem to blend. Make sure colors dry in between layers. I did this 2x but you can do it as many times as you need to.
Tip 6 - continue to wash color in to complete the hair
You could actually be finish in step 5 but I added highlight and began to wash some of the lighter colors in. After I washed in the dark color again.
We have to cultivate our talents by diligently practicing , so that we become skill at what we've chosen to do or practice makes perfect.
Peace
