Antic Biplane Build and first flight

Antic Biplane build-along from a '74 vintage kit and first flight. Construction uses spruce, pine, plywood, bamboo, and balsa. All "flying wires" are structural. The plywood ribs are finished with spruce cap-strips.

All control surfaces are cable-controlled. The ailerons use Lou Proctor's original closed-loop cable system that runs off a single servo in the fuselage.

Powered by an OS FS90, the 64" wingspan biplane takes off on less than 1/2 throttle and cruises around at 1/4 throttle. Could easily use a smaller engine but the FS90 is the only 4-stroke I have.

The finished wood on the front-fuselage is the structural plywood with no veneer. It was sanded, stained, then went through several coats of clear polyurethane sanded carefully between coats.

The fabric is "antique" Solartex.
