Easy Tsunami Pull Up Cake / 2021 Cake Trend

TSUNAMI PULL UP CAKE

In today's video I am showing you how to make the trending Tsunami Pull Up cake on TIK TOK! This 2021 dessert trend is a creative and yummy treat. I made some 4 inch chocolate cake rounds, let them cool, cut them, and iced with buttercream. Now you will want to make sure you frost the top face cake layer with buttercream ensuring to go out to the edges, so when you apply the plastic sheet (acetate) to the cake there are no holes between the cake or plastic. The best part and star of the show is the topping, which is inspired by vanilla pudding custard. When going to serve, watch the cake explode covering the whole thing with whatever decoration you want! I hope you enjoy my take on this super fun cake trend! RECIPE:

FOR THE FROSTING:
1/2 cup (120 mL) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoons (30 mL) whipping cream
2 cups (475 mL) powdered sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon (5 mL) vanilla extract
Food coloring, optional

FOR THE TOPPING:
1 1/4 cup (300 mL) + 1/2 cup (120 mL) whipping cream
1 1/4 cup (300 mL) milk
1 1/4 cup (300 mL) sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup (80 mL) cornstarch
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Food coloring, optional

INSTRUCTIONS:

FOR THE FROSTING

In a bowl beat the butter on high by itself for about 3 minutes. Then add the powdered sugar and beat on high, should take about 5 minutes.

Add the whipping cream, vanilla, and food coloring (if desired). Beat until the whipping cream is fully developed, about 3 minutes.

FOR THE TOPPING

Grab a saucepan, place it on heat and add milk, whipping cream, & cornstarch. Whisk until the cornstarch has dissolved.

Add in a can of sweetened condensed milk and turn to medium heat. Keep whisking until the mixture thickens, then remove from heat.

Add in vanilla and food coloring (if desired).

Transfer mixture to a bowl and place cling pressed on top (so no film forms). Wait for it to cool either on the counter or in the fridge.

Just before icing the cake add in the remaining whip cream and incorporate it either with a stand mixer paddle attachment or with a whisk by hand. Will be fluffy and smooth.
