Gender and Climate-Smart Agriculture: Introduction to Concepts and Tools – Sibyl Nelson
www.fao.org/in-action/micca/
Sibyl Nelson, FAO, introduces basic concepts of gender, discussing the relevance of gender in climate change and agriculture.
Gender is important as a human rights issue, as a means to achieve better results in programmes and projects, and as a way to improve productivity and food security outcomes. This is because men and women often attach different weight to different goals and gender often entails differentiated implications for men’s and women’s income, labour requirements and wellbeing. Men’s and women’s access to and control over agricultural resources is often unequal and many of these resources are essential for Climate-Smart Agriculture.
In this video, Nelson introduces the FAO & CCAFS guide to participatory research exercises for gathering useful data on gender and CSA.
This presentation was part of a learning event on Gender and Climate-Smart Agriculture organized by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in January 2014
