Eagle Scout Selby Chipman addresses volunteers at Scouting America's National Annual Meeting

Selby Chipman, a member of the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts, addressed more than one thousand volunteers at Scouting America's 2024 National Annual Meeting.

Selby is a recipient of the Lawrence S. and Mabel Cooke Scholarship, offered by the National Eagle Scout Association. She’s an active Venturer, Sea Scout and assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 219 in Oak Ridge, North Carolina.

As a student studying biomedical engineering at the University of Missouri, she still makes time for Scouting.

“When I was going through Scouts, there weren’t any role models that were women who were Eagle Scouts,” Chipman says. “I really want to take what I learned from Scouting and mentor all of the younger girls who might not have someone to look up to.”

And Chipman’s involvement in Scouting extends beyond the shores of the United States. She's spent portions of her summers at Camp Alpine, the Transatlantic Council’s summer camp experience at Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

To see Selby’s passion for the movement is to truly see the present and future of Scouting. Learn more of her story at https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2024/04/24/eagle-scout-shares-why-she-continues-to-serve-scouting-both-at-home-and-abroad/
