Does the Latest Progressive MTB Geometry Make Sense?

Mountain bike geometry has evolved significantly over the years, so much so that bikes these days are pushing the limits of what we thought possible. The latest iteration of progressive MTB geo aims at developing mountain bikes that are just as capable going up as they are going down. No doubt, we have all heard bikes being described as longer, slacker, and lower. But what does that really mean and how does it affect bike handling on the trail? In this video, we follow Jeff as he compares his 2018 Yeti Cycles SB4.5 and 2018 Transition Smuggler to determine how much of an impact the new progressive MTB geometry has on cornering, jumping, rock gardens, and more. The big differences are really the offset fork, steeper seattube angle, longer wheelbase and slacker head angle. The "progressive" brands out there like Transition, Yeti, Mondraker, Nicolai etc. are the ones pushing bike geometry forward, testing new things and competing in the never ending chase to make a bike work better uphill and not sacrifice it's downhill abilities and vice-versa, make it better downhill while not sacrificing uphill ability. Climb like and XC bike, descend like a DH bike, but all in one bike. Is it possible?
