Art for Arts Sake?
The contemporary arts have a bad name: elitist, incomprehensible... Yet what they can bring is crucially needed to face today's global challenges. Today we are seeing a chronic absence, or sever cuts of public support for the arts and arts educations at all levels, in most countries, and many artists are still censored, persecuted or worse. Can we actively promote some common, basic values in art which allow it to benefit so many other sectors and social needs? What's wrong? What's right? What are the next steps?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = indipendently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
