Hope you like this Cello Duet version of Julie-O with Composer/improviser Mark Summer and Even though we only had 5 minutes to rehearse at lunch that day, this performance was one of my favorite moments of the 4th annual LA Creative String festival last month! When I was 14 years old Turtle Island came to my high school and Mark played this very piece! Hearing it completely changed my life and showed me possibilities in cello playing and improvising that I didn't know existed. This past year, I was lucky enough to be one of just 3 cellists asked to fill marks seat in the quartet, and I was able to perform for him and his beautiful wife Bibi with the Jacob Szekely Trio when we were at the Soundroom in Oakland. Every creative cellist I've ever talked to has been profoundly influenced by Mark and to make music with him is something I will treasure for the rest of my life!
