Marc Ribot / Spiritual Unity, Vision Festival XII, June 19, 2007

Marc Ribot's Spiritual Unity, "dedicated to the collective musical process of Albert Ayler," features Ayler alumnus Henry Grimes on bass and violin, Roy Campbell on trumpet and flugelhorn, Chad Taylor, drums, and Marc Ribot on guitar. A short-lived band (only 1 CD, which is totally marvelous), but having made a powerful impact re respecting and acknowledging the legacy of Albert Ayler (which lives on in the musics of so many musicians who have adopted -- consciously or not -- some of Ayler's methodologies). Also highly recommended is the Marc Ribot Trio Live At the Village Vanguard CD, w/ Grimes and Taylor, where Ribot's guitar soars to improvisational heights reminiscent of Coltrane.
