4 TIPS on Carving SAFELY
Hi
In today's video I'm talking about CARVING and giving some SAFETY tip's. Included are also video examples of different potentially dangerous situations for easier demonstration.
The 4 topics are:
1. Never CARVE down an unfamiliar slope or trail. Always check it out in advance. Look for terrain variations, snow consistency, what kind of people are skiing on the slope, how wide the slope is, how steep the slope is, what the edges of the trail looks like and what is located outside the trail. If there are trees, rocks, lift's or cliffs.
2. Always look down the slope before throwing yourself out CARVING. The general rule is that you should always watch out for the people in front of you and not pass them too closely. Leave a lot of space.
3. Always look back up the hill before throwing yourself out CARVING. The potentially most dangerous skiers are located behind you. Two main types: bad skiers straight lining trying to overtake you not realizing you are trawling at high speed as you are going back and forth across the slope, and good skiers, also carving but maybe not finishing the turns as tight as you or they are on GS skis and therefore overtaking you as they are making bigger turns and going faster.
4. Never start your turns close to the trails edges because as you start turning it will take a while before you actually start turning and even longer before you are at the fall line. It's easy to make a miscalculation and end up outside the trail. With GS skis this is a very common mistake but even with SL skis you need to be careful.
Skiers in the video are Chris, Kenneth and myself plus some recreational skiers in Levi Dec. 2019.
Hit that like button, subscribe etc etc but most importantly, CARVE safely!
