Focus on listening and finding “right” tone for those two first notes: upbeat and downbeat. Experiment, play with different touches, different weights,different tones, listen listen and listen! Hear the difference between all your tried out pairs. Find the best touch, the best tone and the best intonation.
A phrase with beautiful beginning will be a gorgeous phrase!
Another idea.
Make up a word, a question, a sentence etc “ my friend”, “ dear friend..”, “are you..”, “you see..”
…” “ so what...” for those two first notes and more... It will help also to find beautiful tone and perfect intonation. Have fun exploring.
