How to build a pergola

00:00 - Choose a suitable surface area and measure your space

00:35 - Remove existing slabs
00:45 - Remove hardcore and dig 0.5m holes using a narrow shovel
00:57 - Place in the ground using steel post supports and position your post
01:07 - Fix in position with temporary support and backfill with stones for stability
01:17 - Fill holes with clean water and add the postcrete
01:31 - Check post is still vertical and wait for postcrete to set
01:46 - Beams
02:00 - Mark the depth of your support beam and tap in nails
02:10 - Clamp support beam in position and ensure it has an equal overhang
02:21 - Mark the centre of each vertical post
02:31 - Drill pilot holes for coach bolts and repeat for other the beam
02:44 - Rafters
02:55 - Align rafters and measure position of support beams
03:07 - Drill pilot holes at both ends
03:17 - Mark the centre of both beams and attach using 6x150mm screws
03:27 - Ensure accurate spacing between rafters and fix in place
03:37 - Consider painting your pergola or using a wood stain for extra protection
03:47 - Accessorise your pergola and enjoy day through to night
