HUNTED THIS FISH FOR 2 MONTHS!!!

It took me 2 months (really 6 dives) to finally land this fish!

Blue spotted grouper (Roi) is an invasive species of fish in the Hawaiian islands imported to Hawaii in the 1950s from French Polynesia and since then has spread to almost all of the Hawaiian coral reefs. It destroys the reef and has a big appetite for fish. Simply put this fish is a bully.

It is invasive but it is also very EVASIVE! This fish became my arch nemesis as it had taken home the W 5x out of 6.

I would come to this same rock and hunt this same fish and every time the outcome would be the same. I drop down, it hides in the corner of this L shaped rock. I move to the other side, it moves to the other side. After 5 or 6 drops, it finally leaves to a deeper rock only to start the chase again next week when I come back.

Today was the first time I took home the win on this bad boy! You can see how deep the rivalry was by watching my dive buddy’s reaction to finally getting this Roi.

Now off to another rock and another fish 🤙
