It's vlogmas Day 10 for 2021!

Again, each video through December 24th will start out with us trying a new Christmas-themed British treat from our (made-up) British Snacks Advent Calendar.

After that each day, we'll share something Christmas-related, either from our family traditions or food or things in the Chicago area.

Today, Louie makes Christmas crumpets!

Christmas Crumpets:

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
8 fluid ounces water
3/4 tsp. salt
1-1/2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. dry yeast
Red & Green food coloring if making Christmas crumpets

Method:

Heat an electric griddle to 350 (or you can use a skillet over a medium-low flame)

In a bowl using a hand mixer, mix the flour water and salt until very well combined. Add the sugar, baking powder and yeast. Whisk again for a minute, or so. It should be the consistency of heavy cream so if it’s too thick, add a bit of water at a time while mixing until you get there.

Cover with cling wrap and then with a dish towel and let rest for 15 minutes

Grease your cooking surface with butter where you're going to put your crumpet rings

Pour just short of a ¼ cup of batter into each ring. Wait about 8-10 minutes, during which time you'll see the bubbles forming and popping, leaving holes in their place. Once the top of a crumpet no longer looks wet, flip it over for a minute or two

After you make the crumpets, toast them before eating. I put them in our toaster oven on a darkness setting 5 for however many slices (crumpets) I’m toasting.

Top with salted butter or golden syrup, yum!
