Preservation Park (restored Victorian homes) in Oakland, CA

The sixteen homes In Preservation Park are arranged to resemble a late 19th-century Oakland neighborhood. Five of these buildings stand in their original location, the other eleven were moved from elsewhere in Oakland to avoid demolition. The entire area is roughly the size of one city block and has ornate entrances at 3 of the streets that border it.

The buildings are in the classic Victorian-style architecture which had its heyday in the 19th century, with many homes still standing here and all over the the Bay Area, much so in San Francisco with its "painted ladies".

Unfortunately, the serenity of this park can often be affected by the constant street traffic nearby (especially during the work week). There is a major freeway, with on and off ramps just a few steps away. Still, it is a step back in time, with a beautiful fountain and roundabout in the center of the park. Located in downtown Oakland, the park is a venue for weddings, meetings and other events, due to its rustic charm.
