New property tax relief bill signed into law for disabled Hoosier veterans

Bloomington’s Sgt. Maj. Therron Thomas (Ret.) served 30 years of active duty with the Indiana National Guard. That included a combat tour in Iraq in 2006.

It wasn’t an easy time, losing one of his soldiers overseas. Since then, he’s lost 12 others from his unit.

He’s considered a 100% disabled veteran, a ranking that’s climbed over the years, too.

“I think sometimes people envision disabled veterans as a person who's lost a limb or something, right? And, and that's not necessarily the case,” Thomas said. “When I got my rating, it was a very emotional thing, because I think a lot of us that have those ratings just don't realize how tore up you really are.”
