12/16/11: The Truth About What Happened in Zhanaozen

10 years ago, on the 16th of December, 2011, the bloodiest page in the history of independent Kazakhstan was filled. The months-long strike of oil workers in the city of Zhanaozen, ended with the shooting of strikers by the police. For another three days after the shooting of unarmed people in the square in Zhanaozen, the police and the army terrorized the local population.

In this documentary film, the authors of the project "Just Journalism" reconstructed the chronology of these tragic days. Oil workers who survived, relatives of the victims, local residents, eyewitnesses, witnesses and direct participants of the Zhanaozen events tell about the fear and hatred that have settled in this city in western Kazakhstan since then.

The film features unique footage and live testimonies.
