What is more painful a c section or a tummy tuck?
In this video, you’ll get the answer to a burning question many women have about tummy tucks: Which hurts more, a c-section or a tummy tuck? Dr. Bernard Beldholm, FRACS, a specialist tummy tuck surgeon in Australia, gives the answer in today’s Youtube video.
Like all surgery, a tummy tuck can have some pain or discomfort afterward. There will be swelling at first, internal stitches and limited mobility for the first 6-8 weeks after surgery. Don’t worry, you will be back to normal soon. Many patients can even start light aerobics at 6 weeks post-op. Most women say that their tummy tuck results are well worth the initial discomfort.
A c-section is different. The road to recovery can take months. The reason is that a c-section goes deeper into the abdominal cavity than a standard tummy tuck without muscle repair. While everyone experiences pain differently, most of Doctor Bernard’s patients have told him that the pain from a c-section is worse than a tummy tuck.
That all has to do with how Dr. Beldholm performs the surgery. He uses a modern tummy tuck technique known as VASER Lipo-abdominoplasty for many of his patients. The big difference between this kind of tummy tuck and older tummy tuck techniques that many surgeons still perform is that VASER Lipo-abdominoplasty (aka the Sculpt Tummy Tuck) is a drainless technique.
It is also less invasive than cruder techniques of the past. The tummy tuck a friend or family member had 10 or 20 years ago is likely to be very different than techniques today. You can rest assured knowing today’s surgical methods allow for an easier, less painful recovery.
Other factors that can affect tummy tuck recovery and pain is the skill of the surgeon, type of tummy tuck (ex. mini, extended, fleur-de-lis, body lift), ab muscle repair, adding liposuction and more.
Knowing what to expect can put your fears to rest. Soon, you will have a beautiful new body. A tummy tuck is an exciting and life-changing decision that can improve your confidence, looks and quality of life.
