I deleted half my Cursor prompts and moved them to .cursor/rules files. Each rule is markdown with frontmatter, a description field, optional globs for file patterns, and alwaysApply for must-haves. Cursor attaches matching rules to chats automatically when you open a matching file. Trade-off: rules can over-constrain the model, keep them tight and version them in git.
